Clinical Ladder Enhances Professional Practice

The Clinical Ladder defines the professional expectations of the registered nurse at Lancaster General Hospital. In addition, it provides a pathway for the RN to develop and expand clinical expertise and advanced nursing practices while remaining at the bedside.

RN I-Entry Level

Reflects the experience of a recently licensed nurse. Required to be met by initial 90 days.

RN II-Competent

Reflects the minimum level of competency and experience required for employment. Required to be met by first annual review.

RN III-Proficient

Reflects clinical expertise and leadership abilities in area of practice. Voluntary with financial incentive.

RN IV-Expert

Reflects advanced clinical expertise and leadership across Lancaster General and the community. Voluntary with financial incentives.

Professional Practice Councils

Six sub-councils with one council of oversight comprise the Lancaster General Health Nursing Professional Practice Model, responsible for goal setting, management, operation, education, and performance improvement in nursing service. Each council operates within mandated roles and accountabilities defined within the nursing bylaws. Nurses have the ability to get involved with these councils and influence the way in which their profession is practiced. For more information on these councils, click here.

Nurse Manager Residency

The 12-month Nurse Manager Residency Program provides an opportunity for registered nurse candidates to develop the leadership, managerial and personal skills required to be considered for a leadership position in nursing. The program consists of multiple development methods including formal lectures, independent learning, experiential leadership assignments, coaching, and mentorship.
