Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Provide leadership, direction and oversight for the facilities planning and facilities management across LG Health.  The Vice President, Facilities Planning is responsible for oversight of the design, development and construction of new construction, additions and renovations to all facilities and equipment, including grounds. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Directs facilities planning and construction, including all acquisition and disposition of real estate, new construction, remodeling, furnishings, management of leased property, management of all efforts related to sustainability and management of utilities. 
  • Recommends priorities and general strategies for facilities planning and construction; including creation and maintenance of a comprehensive master facilities plan covering all sites within LG Health.      
  • Responsible for ensuring detailed accounting of all projects is maintained to assure projects are within budget and delivered on time.
  • Represents LG Health to external community planning bodies, local agencies and community groups on facilities and construction-related matters.  This includes responsibility for maintaining communications and relationships with city, township and state officials responsible for environments of care, zoning, etc.   
  • Makes presentations to LG Health board, board committees, as well as before licensing and zoning boards.
  • Develops new and recommends changes to existing policies, procedures and standards. 
  • Assists in the preparation of budgets and the allocation of funds, based on cost studies, review of departmental budgets, familiarity with operating procedures, and consultations with department heads.
  • Interprets System and department head policies, objectives, and operational procedures to department heads and staff.
  • Resolves problems with department heads concerning such issues as staffing, utilization of Hospital facilities, and equipment and supplies. 
  • Provides leadership and oversight to the following System departments and functions:
  • Operation of Plant              
  • Plant Engineering
  • Real Estate & Leasing
  • Property Acquisition
  • LG Health Construction
  • Project Engineering
  • Security, Safety & Parking

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction, Architecture, Facilities Management or Healthcare Management with in-depth, major construction or renovation experience.
  • Ten (10) years of progressive experience in general management and oversight of major construction/renovation projects.   
  • Demonstrated application of management principles and techniques pertinent to the position.
  • Strong interpersonal aptitude to interact with members from broad and diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Strong and effective communication and customer orientation. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Fifteen (15) years of progressive experience.

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Creative Thinking: The following level of ability that is essential for the jobholder to think (in order to solve a problem) by combining two or more elements from past experience or imaginative thought:

  • The position required much autonomy of thought and problem solving.  The individual must be able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems.  The individual must be able to think abstractly, which is manifested in the ability to form concepts, use categories, generalize from single instances, apply procedural rules and general principles, and be aware of subtle or intrinsic aspects of a problem.  The development of hypothesis and potential solutions to problems involves careful interpretation, analysis and diagnosis.  The individual must be able to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  The individual must be able to think creatively with a degree of inventiveness, experimentation and intuition.  They must be able to deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables.
