Job Description

Location: Lancaster, PA

Hours: Full-Time, M-F, no holidays (varies)

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for supervising patient transport staff in collaboration with the Manager, Patient Transport and covering during his/her absence; coordinating efficient patient transports; and assisting in identifying and resolving process/ quality/ and customer service issues with collaborating departments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Understands and applies knowledge of basic patient transport concepts, infection control practices, and proper body mechanics.
  • Understands and determines, explains, and develops dispatcher logic and transporter activities; monitors and supervises dispatcher activity.
  • Monitor and perform daily and periodic maintenance of Teletracking patient transport system.
  • Assists in coordination of Patient Transportation activities and services with other departments; develops service agreements as appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies including but not limited to Federal, State, JCAHO, OSHA, and CDC.
  • Participates in supervisory duties such as scheduling, performance management, assigning duties, assisting with hiring and disciplinary decisions, ensuring staff meet certification requirements, and payroll duties.
  • Orients, trains, and develops transporter personnel.
  • Serves as a liaison between transporters and management.
  •  Maintain schedule for transporters and ensures proper allocation of transport personnel to meet hospital needs.
  • Assists manager in achieving financial objectives, ensures department operates within budget, and assists controlling departmental expenses.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) through American Heart Association.
  • Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, ability to follow verbal instructions, PC skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous patient transport experience.

EQUIPMENT USAGE REQUIREMENTS

Equipment/Tools: wheel chair, litter, hospital beds, etc.  PC, printer, peripheral devices, general office supplies

Software: clinical information system, transport tracking system

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Lifting: Degree of physical exertion is:

Moderate, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
