Job Description


Supervises all Anesthesia Technicians in Perioperative Services.  This position has direct supervision and responsibility for ancillary activities in the Perioperative Services 24 hours 7 days a week.  The Supervisor effectively directs and monitors staff are assisting with the delivery of  safe, quality care of the surgical patients. Communicates routinely with leadership in areas serviced and troubleshoots daily activity and Operating Room (OR) changes.  This position must plan, evaluate and prioritize workflow without specific instructions, assign work, give instructions based on policy/procedure, OR activity, patient census and direction from department manager

LOCATION: Lancaster, PA

HOURS: Full Time (1.0 FTE; 40hrs/wk) Monday through Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm typically.  Possibility of covering some off shifts and weekends when needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Works closely with Managers of Anesthesia Services, Main OR, Ortho OR and WBH OR. Works collaboratively with peers to achieve department goals. Serves as a liaison between management and the operating rooms and other departments within the hospital. Working with Biomedical Engineering, demonstrates a detailed technical knowledge and troubleshooting ability for anesthesia delivery system (anesthesia machines) and monitoring equipment.
  • Communicates all changes in work details to staff as needed. Prepares work schedules, assigns personnel. Anticipates the availability of appropriate resources and proactively addresses staffing problems.
  • Assists in the development of new policies and procedures. Evaluate functionality of area workflow and processes, while making recommendations for improvement.
  • Gives input on employee performance and makes recommendations for personnel. Prepares annual evaluations, collaboratively determine individual achievable goals. Completes and performs evaluations of Anesthesia Technicians and Surgical Support Assistants. Assists manager in conducting and documenting disciplinary counseling in accordance with Human Resources guidelines. Interviews and assists in hiring when appropriate.
  • Coordinate training and documentation of essential and mandated education and training programs for assigned staff.  Work closely with Clinical Nurse Educator to develop, update and run competencies. Proactively influence, train or mentor others to contribute to Patient Safety practices, organization and departmental goals. Serves as a resource for staff and customers regarding decontamination and sterilization process of anesthesia equipment.
  • Ensures standards are met for room preparation and cleanup and anesthesia equipment maintenance.
  • Monitors departmental supply levels and orders supplies as necessary. Maintains equipment inventory to track repairs, loaners and demos.
  • Recognizes problems and provides timely solutions to proactively prevent recurrence.
  • Perform duties of Anesthesia Technician (AT) as described in AT job description.

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Five (5) plus years experience as an Anesthesia Technician.
  • A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e. not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid or any other federal or state health insurance programs.


  • Prior supervisory experience.
