The Role of the Security Officer
Reporting to the Lead Security Officer, this position will provide security for students, employees and visitors to the College, protecting College buildings, assets and premises as assigned. With diligent attention to detail, the Security Officer will initiate investigations and follow-up as appropriate while maintaining an extremely polite, helpful and professional attitude as the initial contact for individuals entering the College.
Specifically, this position will patrol assigned areas, monitoring the campus and activity to provide a safe and secure environment for students, employees and visitors; participate in daily pre and post-shift briefings to remain current with recent security events and incidents; document daily activity and security responses using a detailed activity log; respond to requests for Security to resolve emergency situations, investigate suspicious activity, de-escalate volatile situations and take appropriate action as directed by College leadership; respond to all alarms, medical or otherwise, as may be required, acting as a liaison with outside agencies; acting as a liaison to the College's shuttle bus drivers; and taking on responsibility for issuing College identification badges to students and new employees.
The schedule for this position is weekends, 6:00am – 6:00pm with ability to fill in, as needed, throughout the work week. A minimum of one weekend per month will be required.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) or equivalent knowledge and experience (Associate’s degree in criminal law or related field preferred);
- Proven ability to interact professionally and tactfully with a wide variety of people;
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks
