Summary

The Director Perioperative Services, in consultation and collaboration with the Senior Director Perioperative Services, Surgical Services Management Team, Governing Board and Clinical Practice Committee, supports patient care services, evaluates, plans, organizes, coordinates, and manages implementation of the non-physician activities of Peri-operative Services at WBH and ASF including the Operating Room Suites, pre/post - surgery care, PACU, and the Sterile Processing Department.

Job Description

LOCATION: Women & Babies Hospital and Ambulatory Surgical Facility in Lancaster, PA

HOURS: Full-time 1.0 FTE (80 hours/2 weeks); Monday-Friday, weekends as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Directs the activities of the Surgical Services Areas consistent with the mission of the department and hospital.                          
  • Develops the management skills of the nurse managers and other direct reports.  Works with his/her managers to develop their staff.                     
  • Responsible for the integration of the department/service into the primary functions of the organization as well as coordination and integration of interdepartmental and intradepartmental services.
  • Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care/service, recommends needed space, equipment, and other resources.
  • Oversees the maintenance of quality control programs and continuously assesses and improves the quality of care/services rendered.
  • Promotes a safe and healthy environment for the patients, visitors, employees and medical staff. 
  • Define and establish the identification of roles and requirements of personal staffing needs and overall direction of personnel assigned to the department.
  • Directs the development of individual cost centers, operation and capital budgets, and negotiates for resources considering the current fiscal and reimbursement environment. 
  • Monitors productivity and assesses divisional performance in meeting productivity standards.  Monitors and evaluates budgetary activity.
  • Actively participates in the establishment of operating systems and policies and monitoring of compliance with standards for patient care and services.
  • Actively participates in the implementation of systems for management, control and evaluation including quality assurance activities.
  • Directs the development of individual cost centers, operation and capital budgets, and negotiates for resources considering the current fiscal and reimbursement environment. 
  • Monitors productivity and assesses divisional performance in meeting productivity standards.  Monitors and evaluates budgetary activity.
  • Participates as a member of the management triad of physician and hospital administrator in planning, developing and implementing programs for the Perioperative Services Area.
  • Works with Business Manager to monitor utilization of supplies and equipment based on established standards for equipment and facilities.
  • Monitors the quality and costs of patient care, maintaining designated patient care standards.
  • Assures that all persons in the area are oriented and have continuing education.
  • Participates as a member of the nursing management team for department planning, policy and decision making.
  • Maintains and enhances alliances with consumer, healthcare schools, and other external organizations.
  • Serves on committees of the hospital, medical staff and department.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.
  • Participates in developing departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Determines the qualifications and competence of personnel.
  • Responsible for training of employees and assuring compliance with departmental and hospital-wide safety policies and practices.
  • Participates in the development of criteria-based job descriptions, as directed, and in the writing of performance standard for unit/area personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare or management related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse, issued by the PA State Board of Nursing.
  • Five (5) years of experience in administrative role with oversight of large clinical department.
  • Five (5) years of project management experience.

            

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a healthcare or management related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a care provider in a clinical setting
