Nurse Practitioner Heart Group (VAD/Heart Failure)

Job Description

Advanced Practice Providers at Lancaster General Health are often found collaborating with their peers and team members to provide a coordinated and holistic approach to care through our patient centered medical home model.  We believe that care must incorporate all needs of the patient.  This includes medically necessary before and after care services, as well as access to socio-economic resources in the community, to ensure their wellbeing as the ultimate path to recovery.  Our belief in this type of approach allows our Advanced Practice Providers the opportunity to participate in clinical and organizational improvement huddles, committees and other initiatives, providing opportunities to innovate within their own practices as well as the overarching health system.

Penn Medicine – The Heart Group of Lancaster General Health is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner to join our Heart Failure and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) team.  As part of a highly productive cardiology group consisting of 30 Physicians and 26 Nurse Practitioners, our heart failure team offers sub-specialty clinics in the areas of pulmonary hypertension, adult congenital heart disease, cardio-oncology, maternal cardiology and VAD. With the capabilities to offer a full spectrum of mechanical circulatory support devices, we thrive on innovation and state of the art technology and are proud to serve some of the longest surviving destination therapy patients in the country.  Our group is nationally recognized for the lowest heart failure readmission rates in the country.  Established in 2005 as one of the earliest community hospitals to implant VADs, our program collaborates with three MCD cardio-thoracic surgeons offering all available BTT and DT platforms.  As a forward thinking group, our team participates in over 20 clinical trials, encourages and supports research endeavors.  We collaborate with Penn Medicine’s Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology team regularly to improve quality of life and a better life expectancy for heart failure patients.

Our Nurse Practitioners enjoy a collaborative practice with a high degree of autonomy.  Nurse Practitioners round on inpatients, participate in consults, and coordinate discharges.  Nurse Practitioners see patients in the outpatient heart failure clinic and VAD clinic.

Hours: This position is full time, usual hours 0730-1730. 10 hour shifts – 8 shifts in a 2 week period. VAD call is one week per month, shared with other VAD Nurse Practitioners.  This responsibility includes answering emergency VAD patient calls and nurse calls.  The on call VAD Nurse Practitioner is available to cover inpatient VAD emergency procedures and admissions to the hospital during off hours.

  • Valid Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner license and Certificate of Prescriptive Authority in Pennsylvania
  • Valid Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Nurse
