Summary

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is seeking a full-time board certified Radiation Oncologist to serve as the Medical Director of  Radiation Oncology located in Lancaster, PA.  Our Radiation Oncologists practice in a single location at Penn Medicine’s Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, a 90,000 square foot state-of-the-art cancer center that provides high quality radiation, medical, surgical, and palliative oncology under one roof. Our warm, light-filled, modern cancer institute includes 5 linear accelerators, 60 infusion chairs, and 57 examination rooms. Installation is currently underway for an integrated Proton Therapy center set to open in Summer 2022.

The Radiation Oncology Medical Director will ensure that all patients receive the highest quality treatment. The Radiation Oncology Medical Director will have oversight of activities associated with the delivery of clinical care and the organization of staff relating to the appropriate delivery of such care. Clinical care must fit within the overall department and the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute strategy, quality and safety standards, operations and structure.

The Radiation Oncology Medical Director will be responsible for ensuring efficient consultation service for all Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute and Lancaster General Hospital cancer patients. Oversight responsibilities include streamlined clinical processes, appropriate clinical treatment protocols, provision of clinical trials, and maintenance of high levels of patient satisfaction. The Medical Director will oversee quality metrics to ensure appropriate outcome measures in collaboration with the Penn Department of Radiation Oncology. The Medical Director will work closely with physicians, nursing, and technical staff at Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute radiation department to maintain the highest level of general clinical care/operations and will organize the development of new clinical programs and innovations to continue to provide the latest clinical technologies and service. Current  modalities includes: 2x True Beam linear accelerators, Halcyon, the nation’s first Cyberknife M6 with MLC, Tomotherapy, Respiratory gating / 4D CT scanning, Cone Beam CT image guidance and HDR / LDR brachytherapy. The new ProBeam 360 proton center will be the first such compact single vault center in the world.

This position requires strong leadership skills and experience. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a matrixed environment with accountability to the cancer program medical director for strategy and growth, to Lancaster General Medical Group for physician employment, and to the Penn Medicine Department of Radiation Oncology for specialty-specific practice standards.  The Medical Director will lead and oversee department efforts to develop relationships with referring physicians, conduct community outreach and marketing, organize educational programs, help with staff development, and develop and implement plans to achieve Department goals.  

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Medicine (Allopathic/Osteopathic)
  • Completion of an accredited one year internship
  • Completion of an accredited Radiation Oncology Residency
  • Board Certified in Radiation Oncology
  • Possess or be able to obtain an unrestricted PA Medical License
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the field of Radiation Oncology
  • Prior experience in a radiation oncology clinical setting is preferred
  • Previous management/organizational leadership experience preferred
  • Demonstrated excellent qualifications in education, clinical care, research and practice building
  • Expertise in all modalities appropriate for the specific disease site including brachytherapy and stereotactic radiation therapy as appropriate
  • Proton therapy experience is preferred or candidate must agree to complete proton training at University of Pennsylvania within one year of hire
