Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: As part of the Lancaster General Health Physicians executive management team, responsible for leading the clinical operations of their practices in collaboration with the Executive Medical Director Innovation and Innovative Health Care Delivery, Vice President of Specialty Care, Director of Operations, Regional Medical Directors and APP Managers, Urgent Care and OnDemand Program Managers and practice supervisors.  Influence high quality, consumer driven care, employee engagement, and provider well-being by advocating for the patients and practice. Fulfills duties of servant leader and ambassador for LG Health.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

Management Responsibilities

  • Develop partnerships with practice providers and LGHP governance to ensure effective and productive relationships. Work collaboratively with the Director of Operations, Regional Medical Directors and APP Managers and LGHP administration through a team approach leading the practice.
  • Report Directly to Executive Medical Director of Innovation and Innovative Health Care Delivery.
    • Meet regularly for one on ones to appraise manager of recent events
  • Function as a dyad with Director of Operations UC
    • All major management decisions having clinical and operational implications should be vetted by both parties
  • Works with Urgent Care & OnDemand management, APPs and physicians to coordinate optimal patient care processes, quality and safety.
  • Work closely with specialty and primary care services lines to remain the leaders in access, innovation and team based care
  • Evaluate patient, family, physician and staff satisfaction. 
    • Implement actions to establish improvements.
  • Facilitates effective communication between APPs, physicians, management and staff.
  • Assists HR in recruitment and selection of new providers, using input from staff, oversee recruitment, selection, and retention of personnel that are representative of the population diversity.
  • Utilize various motivational strategies to increase staff morale and also provide counseling for employees as appropriate
  • Provides appropriate orientation, education, credentialing, continuing professional development and conducts performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Monitors performance and addresses deficiencies as necessary.
  • Attend leadership and team meetings, actively participating to improve LGHP.  Represent the practices in governance councils, LGHP and LGH committees, and other ad hoc committees to support the strategic initiatives of the organization. 
    • Meetings include but not limited to Managing Clinicians Council, Town Hall functions, etc.
    • Meet by weekly with director reports and director of operations for one on ones
  • Chair monthly provider meetings to engage providers in all aspects of practice performance, quality, safety initiatives and LGHP communication.
  • Become enterprise wide content expert in urgent care and virtual medicine through journal review, cme and leadership courses focused on service lines under management
  • Interact frequently with Philadelphia based OnDemand team to assure care is being maintained at a consistent level across the enterprise.
  • Work with VP of research to focus on studies that help improve the healthcare of our community
  • Mentor junior clinicians to help them prepare for leadership roles
  • Maintain a psychological safe work environment that focuses on just culture, HRO and crew resource management
    • Huddle Weekly
    • Focus on continuous improvement including rapid PDCA cycles
  • Actively participate in the budget process, marketing efforts, strategic growth initiatives, and other organizational priorities and initiatives.
  • Develop annual goals with enterprise, system and personal metrics
    • Help director reports develop their own goals and quality incentive plans

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other clinicians by assisting in establishing diagnosis, formulating plan of care, evaluation of patient response, and revising plan of care.
  • Obtain comprehensive health history: perform physical examination on and document/dictate in patient record. 
  • Order common diagnostic studies, laboratory studies and pharmacologic treatment modalities
  • Discuss medical plan with patient/family.  Serve as a liaison between providers and patient/family as needed to enhance communication and understanding.
  • Provide support and clinical expertise to nursing personnel regarding complex patient care issues.
  • Lead by example by providing excellent clinical care in traditional brick and mortar facilities and virtually through OnDemand platform
  • Participate in collaborative appraisal of his/her own practice with peers including mandatory compliance, coding and safety review requirements.
  • ¼ weekend clinical coverage

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

  • Participates in the on-call management responsibilities for this position as required. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Medical Doctor (MD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP)
  • Board certified in specialty
  • BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications required.
  • Preferable graduate from the LG Health Leadership Academy or willingness to participate in future Leadership Academy programs.
  • A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e. not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid or any other federal or state health insurance program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous leadership experience (5 years)
  • Internal or External Leadership courses or certification
  • Advanced degree appreciated but not required
