Job Description

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible (BC/BE) Anesthesiologist with fellowship training in Critical Care medicine and a particular interest/experience in cardiovascular care to develop and lead a Cardiovascular Intensivist Program. The physician will coordinate all programmatic elements of the service in partnership with the Cardiac Surgery Managing Physician, Heart and Vascular Service Line leadership and hospital administration. The Cardiac Intensivist Program will have night Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) coverage, daytime physician leadership coverage (staffed by this position) and other supportive clinical team positions. The Cardiac Surgery practice consists of four surgeons, six PA-Cs and three CRNPs. The Cardiac Intensivist role will have the responsibility of coordinating all aspects of the dedicated CVICU as it relates to both pre-op and post-op Open Heart Surgery (OHS) patients in addition to those Cardiovascular patients deemed appropriate for this service (VAD, TEVAR, major open vascular, EVAR, IABP patient’s, complex TAVR, heart failure, etc.).
We seek candidates with a special interest in both VA and VV ECMO as the physician leader will help set the governance expectations for the ECMO patients at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. The physician leader will work in partnership with physicians at Lancaster General Hospital and the Critical Care Alliance across PENN Medicine to establish pre and post OHS care protocols and pathways. This leadership role includes collaboration and partnership to assure alignment with PENN departments across the health system.
The qualified candidate will be integrated into the Department of Anesthesiology, Penn Medicine/Lancaster General Health.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Medicine
- Possess or able to obtain an unrestricted PA Medical License
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Anesthesiology
- Specialty training in Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology
- Fellowship training in anesthesia critical care medicine is preferred. Those individuals with a proven professional commitment to critical care medicine will be considered as this individual will fill a Directorship role
- A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs
