Manager Environmental Services- Job Description

This position is located in Lancaster, Pa

HOURS: Full Time- Monday - Friday - Day Shift


Working collaboratively with the Director of Guest Services, this leader will provide daily operations management to maintain cleanliness of all areas and sights supported by Environmental Services (EVS), oversee relevant data, and leverage clinical decision support to improve the appropriate utilization of services in order to maximize healthcare value.  This manager will operate EVS programs and drive key metrics focused on quality, safety and efficiency goals. The manager, EVS Operations ensures quality services are delivered with high reliability in compliance with all regulations and works in conjunction with leadership to develop and administer policies and procedures that optimize patient care and experience while maintaining excellence and operational strength.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Creates a culture of patient/employee safety, high reliability and continuous learning.
  • Directs activities of daily operations and patient care areas including scheduling, quality assurance, and workflow management. In partnership with the Director of Guest Services, establishes goals and objective, policies and procedures for department operation aligned with the division and Lancaster General.
  • Manages the selection, purchase and installation of new equipment and associated department needs.
  • Oversees the selection, hiring, evaluation and discipline of all technical and support staff and ensures that orientation, training and continuing education are provided.  Conducts regular talent assessments and provides enrichment experiences and developmental support to top performers.
  • Ensures compliance with all pertinent regulatory agencies and maintains certification/accreditation of departments, modalities and section as required by FDA, DOH, TJC, OSHA, DOT, EPA and other accrediting bodies.
  • Conducts all interactions in a professional manner and develops strong collaborative relationships with peers, physicians, vendors, and customers.   Seeks to work collaboratively both within and outside the organization at all levels of problem resolution.
  • In partnership with the Director of Guest Services, performs short and long range strategic planning in alignment with the health system for EVS services including technology and innovation, new facilities, process improvements and financial modeling
  • Supports contracting and oversees outsourced cleaning companies and other cleaning support sources to support quality impacts system wide
  • Directs the development and maintenance of facilities, equipment, supplies and materials at a level to promote efficiency, safety, health and comfort of patients and staff.
  • Prepares, monitors and manages departmental finances including budget preparation, variance reporting, and value management and capital accusations.
  • Maintains professional acumen and seeks education and self-improvement.
  • Participates in applicable organizational and industry interest groups, professional associations and committees.
  • Maintains sustainability practices for system and completes required documentation along with city and county partnerships.
  • Manages the development and application of quality assurance and process improvement programs; working in an interdisciplinary model to enhance services, provide efficiency and ensure quality outcomes.
  • Coordinates clinical and Information Technology services as they apply to EVS across the enterprise including multiple sub-specialized software systems. Selects, coordinates implementation and supports ongoing maintenance of software applications and databases as they relate to EVS services and other system crossovers.
  • Keypro, Epic, Teletracking, Xenex, CleanTrace Clorox UV-C
  • Prepares and/or revises written procedures and technical guides/manuals with respect to housekeeping functions.
  • Coordinates and cooperates with all departments, resolving, clarifying, and interpreting policies and procedures as related to housekeeping responsibilities or functions.  Represents Environmental Services at administrative meetings as directed.
  • Prepares departmental annual report, budget, and departmental goals.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of SDS, compactor, recycling operations and universal precautions.  Keep abreast of the latest technical developments and interpersonal/ leadership skills through continuing education.
  • Serves as a point of contact for all outsourced cleaning services to all LG interests.  Provides direction, review, and service recovery support to facilities.  Acts as a resource to solve quality issues between the tenant and contractor.
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Associates degree
  • Seven (7) or more years of supervisory/management experience in services setting
  • Experience with access and throughput in services environment. 


  • Bachelors of Science degree
  • Five (5) or more years of managing delivery of environmental services to multiple sites with both acute and ambulatory service lines.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in healthcare preferably in services setting
  • Seven (7) years of experience in Environmental Services setting, preferably in a healthcare setting
