This position is located at Lancaster General Hospital. Full-time, day shift, every 4th Saturday, no holidays.
Oversees and coordinates all daily functions in the Pathology office within area and a interface with related areas - histology, cytology and the pathologist group. Performs all essential functions of a transcriptionist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
Prepares work schedules and job assignments for transcriptionists ensuring coverage for first and second shift, weekends, and emergency situations. Reviews and approves timecards for transcriptionists.
Oversees, trains and assists in developing transcriptionists. Verifies and controls manpower utilization to optimize productivity.
Monitors employee performance and provides input during periodic performance evaluations of personnel. Participates in counseling and disciplinary measures as necessary. Participates in interviewing and screening prospective office personnel.
Develops and maintains a comprehensive procedure manual for pathology office. Reviews and revises manual as needed. Communicates changes to personnel and monitors implementation.
Performs all duties of a transcriptionist - transcription, coding and filing to maintain timeliness of pathology report.
Develops programs to define problems, evaluates scope of problems and determines ways of solving problems with regard to all work processes.
Oversees the dictation system for Pathology, providing support as needed and manages related hardware supplies.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:
Recommends and justifies equipment purchases to supervisor. Provides input for annual budget preparations. Maintains adequate stock of office supplies and orders when needed. Collects and records data for quality assurance monitoring for pathology.
Prepares and maintains sequestered files for legal consultations at the direction of Administrative Director.
Provides and oversees orientation and training of all new medical secretaries within the section, including training on PC associated computer programs, and the complex pathology protocols.
Create competency program for transcriptionists.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree in Medical Secretarial Science or equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience as a medical secretary or transcriptionist.
Demonstrated skills in planning, organizing, motivating and other leadership abilities.
Three (3) years of professional telephone and interpersonal communications.
Associate degree in management/supervision or equivalent experience.
Three to five (3-5) years of experience as a medical secretary with medical terminology in a pathology department or surgical setting, OR five (5) years of experience as a supervisor/office manager in a medical office.
