Job Description

Lancaster, Pennsylvania (USA). The Department of Pathology at Lancaster General Hospital is seeking an excellent BC/BE anatomic/clinical pathologist with Hematopathology fellowship training to join an expanding and diverse group of 8 pathologists and one clinical chemist. Additional fellowship training in molecular pathology is desirable but not required.

The pathology department serves Lancaster General Hospital, Women's and Babies Hospital and the Suburban Outpatient Pavilion as well as overseeing small off site POC locations. The laboratory at LGH is a state of the art laboratory which was awarded with the 2019 Lab of the Year from Medical Laboratory Observer (MLO).

The Pathology department consists of 8 pathologists and a clinical chemist with various subspecialty fellowships including transfusion medicine, hematopathology, cytology, breast/GYN, immunology and dermatopathology.

We seek a pathology candidate who can bring additional breadth and experience to our group. With a very active and growing cancer program at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer center, we are experiencing an increasing volume of hematopathology cases including bone marrows, tissue lymphomas and peripheral blood malignancies. Utilizing our in-house flow cytometry department, we interpret flow cytometry on bone marrows, solid tissue lymphomas and peripheral blood and body fluid hematologic malignancies. A candidate with Hematopathology fellowship training is essential and additional molecular pathology experience is desirable to accommodate our needs. The candidate will be involved and responsible regular surgical pathology sign out as well as sharing in the hematopathology cases with two other pathologists. The responsibilities also include call coverage inclusive of our plasmapheresis service. Appropriate on boarding with increasing degree of responsibility will be utilized.

Yearly workload in anatomic pathology (approximate numbers): 27,000 surgicals, 2,400 non-GYN cytologies and 11,000 Pap smears. Hematopathology cases are projected to be 560+ bone marrows and over 700 flow cytometry cases, including blood and tissue diagnoses.

Located in south central Pennsylvania, Lancaster is in close driving distance to Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. and a slightly longer drive or short train ride to New York City.
