Summary

Position/Job Summary:

Faculty provide classroom and/or clinical/laboratory instruction for students including the coordination, preparation and presentation of course materials and the evaluation of student progress. Integral aspects of the position include implementation of the College’s philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes, and course objectives through classroom, clinical teaching, and service to the college, health system and community.

  • Promotes and contributes to the enhancement of PA College’s high performing learner-centered environment   
  • Facilitates didactic, laboratory, and/or clinical instruction, using strategies that stimulate interest and maximize student learning.
  • Incorporates current theories, research, and practice into the design of instruction, including plans for development and revision.
  • Supervises and assesses student learning to achieve outcomes at the course and/or program level.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of courses, programs, and College strategies.
  • Models professional values in support of the mission, vision, educational outcomes, and strategic direction of the College.

In addition to the job duties listed above, Nurse Practitioner Clinical Adjunct Faculty are responsible for the following:

Assist with the Full Time/ Part Time didactic faculty and Track Coordinators in the clinical education process for Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences Nurse Practitioner students. The faculty/ student ratio is 6 to 1. Your responsibilities for each semester are as follows:

  • On-Campus Intensive
    • Assist with the On-Campus Intensive (OCI) requirements associated with the clinical courses.
    • This time is counted toward each student’s total clinical hours.
    • The number of hours you will participate in vary by track, but on average will be 8-16 hours per semester.
    • Participate in selected didactic material, with Course Faculty/Track Coordinator, that might be taught during the On-Campus Intensive.
    • Provide one-on-one feedback and complete evaluations, of student simulations, in the Typhon tracking system.
    • Please discuss specific dates and times of each track’s OCI with the respective Track Coordinator.

  • Communication
    • Initiate communication with your clinical students one to two weeks prior to the start of the clinical semester.
    • Initiate contact with each preceptor and be certain they have your up-to-date contact information.
    • Contact each preceptor every two to three weeks during the semester with more frequent contact if a student is experiencing challenges in meeting clinical expectations.
    • Follow-up, in person and/or virtual, site visit may be required for students who are not meeting clinical expectations.
    • Communicate with Course Faculty/ Track Coordinator bi-weekly (or immediately if student concerns and/or questions arise).
    • Respond to all student, preceptor, faculty and administration emails within 48 hours during regular business hours.
    • Students and faculty, including clinical adjunct faculty, are expected to use PA College of Health Sciences email accounts for all email communication.
    • Typhon clinical evaluation training is available, with your respective Track Coordinator, as needed.

  • Assignments
    • Review weekly documentation/ encounter and procedures submitted to Blackboard. Discuss areas of concern, give constructive feedback, all on a continual basis. Document any concerns in the Typhon tracking system and discuss accordingly with Course Faculty/Track Coordinator.
    • Return graded assignments in a timely manner to allow students time to benefit from your feedback before the next weeks submission.
    • Responsible for monitoring clinical hours in the Typhon tracking system and ensuring that hours are entered and verified by preceptors at least bi-weekly.
    • Provides constructive feedback to the student on their clinical progress with fair and objective measures, ensuring the student is aware of their clinical standing.
    • Available to discuss concerns brought forth by student, preceptor or faculty.

  • Professional Obligations
    • Reports to relevant Track Coordinator
    • Obtained prior MSN from an accredited School of Nursing
    • Maintains board certification as a Nurse Practitioner in relevant specialty
    • Maintains clinical practice as a Nurse Practitioner in relevant specialty

Education Requirements:

Specific Education, Certifications, and Licensure:

  • Degree reflecting coursework applicable to the material to be taught.
  • For doctoral programs, a minimum of one graduate level degree in nursing and a doctorate degree is required in nursing or other related field.
  • Current licensure in discipline as required by the governing bodies regulating practice in that discipline.
  • Certification in a specialty as required for practice in that specialty. 
  • Programs with discipline-specific accreditation will conform to those standards when hiring faculty. 

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully…..

  • Minimum of one year experience teaching at a baccalaureate degree granting institution.

CRNP Faculty teaching clinical courses:

  • Currently licensed and certified in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • National Certification in the population-focused specialty for which they are teaching
  • Evidence of ongoing expertise in their population-focused specialty
  • Currency in clinical practice through ongoing active practice
