Summary

Position/Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Campus Life & Student Engagement, the Employee & Student Health Nurse provides support of the overall wellbeing of the College Community through educational health programming,  simple first aid, and general operations of Health & Wellness Services for employees and students. The Employee & Student Health Nurse provides administrative oversightsupport to the collection and maintenance of employee and student health record compliance. Assists with the management of work related conditions and safety programs for employees and students. Additionally, this position provides counseling for studentssupports the Campus Counselor and maintains oversightworks alongside the Learner Support Specialist for student accommodations at PA College in conjunction with Learner Support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Qualified individuals must have the ability - - with or without reasonable accommodation - - to perform the following duties:

  • Promotes and contributes to the enhancement of PA College’s high performing learner-centric environment.   
  • Establishes a positive customer service philosophy for guests of the suite, and is responsible to promote this philosophy among fellow staff members, such as student employees, volunteers, and contracted wellness personnel.
  • Contributes to campus wellness initiatives through outreach, education, and programming for employees and students around mental health and wellness topics.
  • Operationalizes and administers the annual flu vaccine, post-job/post-admission offer assessments, immunizations, and drug screens for initial testing and warranted suspicion as needed.
  • Works alongside the Office of Admissions for oversight of the vital document student record management system, including but not limited to health document review, data entry, and reporting.
  • Provides simple first aid, referral, and assists with injury or exposure follow up for employees and students.
  • Manages the inventory, stocking, and purchasing of medical supplies to deliver the services and procedures offered through Health & Wellness Services, as outlined in the standing order.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact within Health & Wellness Services and the Employee Health Office at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, academic programs at PA College, and various clinical sites, to maintain confidential and accurate employee and student record management ensuring that all legal and ethical requirements, as well as PA College policies, are met.
  • ProvidesSupports the Campus Counselors and provides short term individual studentsstudent counseling on-campus and maintains external partner organizations for long term counseling, medical, safety, food, housing, and financial assistance.
  • Functions as the Supports the Learner Support Specialist/ADA Coordinator, approving reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities while working collaboratively with faculty and the Learner Support Specialiststudents for ADA implementation.
  • Promotes self-care mental health and wellness to impact student success and retention broadly and individually by utilizing the Starfish retention tool to support students who self-identify or are referred by faculty or staff.
  • Serves as a key member of the Behavioral Intervention Team and responds as part of the first line of support for employees and students in crisis, as appropriate.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Researches and develops communication for various health topics that are required and/or beneficial for the College Community (i.e., drug and alcohol education, cause/awareness dates, etc.).
  • Represents Student Affairs and Health & Wellness Services on various committees including (but not limited to) Health, Safety & Security, and the Behavioral Intervention Team.
  • Assists with the development of the health and wellness information shared on the College’s website and My PA College Portal.
  • Provides desk -side delivery services to PA College. Receives and distributes employee perscriptions from the Penn Medicine/LG Health Convenience pharmacy.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Nursing Degree (BSN)
  • Current Registered Nurse credentialed to practice in the state of PA
  • Experience working in higher education and mental health/or school nursing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ADA Certification
