Summary

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Associate Vice President, Information Technology, responsibilities include oversight of application planning, recommendation, implementation, integration, development, maintenance and support, including but not limited to, the Colleague ERP system, Salesforce CRM, campus portal, business intelligence reporting, database management, Blackboard learning management system, and website content management system; Responsible for project implementation and customer satisfaction, and manages the staff responsible for delivering academic and administrative software solutions to support the operations of the College; Contribute to the development of system policies, standards and procedures and supervise the creation of appropriate documentation of all system processes and workflows; Work with departments to identify needs, solutions, integration opportunities and gaps of systems and provide recommendations on ways to improve; Leads, mentors, coaches and develops high performing technical team to include individual and team performance objectives, direction and goals, and provides coaching and counseling of staff to accomplish goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of academic technology team to ensure timely and accurate resolution of issues and ensure exceptional customer service and experiences. 
  • Select, train and manage academic technology department staff as needed.
  • Work with IT department staff members as necessary to identify quality issues, and assist with the implementation of improvements and integrations related to academic technology operations.
  • Perform hands-on technical tasks as necessary to augment the staff in critical areas.
  • Create and maintain strong working relationships with departments to define business objectives and scope, including responsibilities, tasks, and positive outcomes of end-user experiences.
  • Serve as a project manager for large academic technology related projects within the IT department.
  • Manage vendors, contractors, and consultants, and ensure effective use of College resources.
  • Provide leadership and a long-term vision for the development, management and delivery of enterprise academic technologies that align with organizational priorities and maximize investments in these technologies.
  • Proactively lead and coordinate efforts to improve business processes, integrate and protect data, and meet the changing information needs of the College in cooperation with campus functional areas.
  • Enforce change management and control processes to guarantee minimal production downtime utilizing ITIL best practices.
  • Perform routine audits to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Provide status reports to IT department management on all projects and operational issues.
  • Work with the AVP of Information Technology to develop annual budget requests necessary to maintain high levels of efficiency in academic technology operations.
  • Serve as a teacher/mentor for departmental staff and management within areas of expertise.
  • Confer with faculty and administration in determining the requirements for software to support the administrative and pedagogical activities of the College. 
  • Maintain a thorough understanding and awareness of vendor roadmaps and current trends in the areas of academic technology through participation in related conferences, seminars and workshops in order to advise on future trends.
  • Guide the development of application architecture to allow for integration of College systems.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

  • Communicate information to faculty and staff in a clear and understandable manner that fosters effective use of technology.
  • Participate in meetings or serve as a task force/committee member for initiatives related to academic technology.
  • Collaborate with other technology team members to ensure alignment with the college's strategic and operational goals.
  • Manage relationships with software vendors regarding contracts, system upgrades and design.
  • Support the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the College.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a degree with an orientation toward automation and process improvement; or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years’ successful experience managing a complex, heterogeneous system environment including supervisory experience.
  • Successful academic technology experience at a higher-education institution or an equivalent of related work experience.    
  • Strong service orientation.
  • Knowledge of current trends in academic technologies and enterprise systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Capacity to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Strong technical skills to learn and use various enterprise systems.
  • Demonstrated ability analyzing and troubleshooting software systems and correcting or suggesting design changes as well as examining and re-engineering operations and procedures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in large, integrated systems utilizing relational databases.
  • Ability to work with product vendors in supporting hardware and software and configuring and implementing new solutions.
  • Experience with searching out and identifying solutions to technical issues of any nature.
  • Experience with designing, implementing and managing web and mobile applications and services, business intelligence/data warehouse services, and related infrastructure technologies.
  • Ability to train staff and faculty members on academic applications.
  • Proven ability to guide application architecture development in order to integrate disparate systems.
  • Experience gathering and reporting relevant performance metrics to user community.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Must achieve background check clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of Ellucian Colleague or similarly complex ERP, and working knowledge Ellucian Recruiter, Blackboard LMS, MS SQL, MS SharePoint, Business Objects, website and mobile solutions.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in managing an enterprise systems environment, preferably in a college environment.
  • ITIL Foundations certification and experience.
  • Prior experience with project management and maintaining a large project budget.
