Job Description

Location: Main Hospital

Full Time 40 hours/week 8:30am-5:00pm

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs diversified duties to coordinate the purchase of materials, supplies, equipment and services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Reviews and screens requisitions, obtains additional information if required, places priority orders and ensures delivery requirements are met.  Obtains sources from other suppliers if primary vendor cannot supply the product.

  • Enters orders electronically (EDI) and maintains current pricing of the master file.

  • Performs buyer functions for designated departments, including product sourcing, negotiating and acting as liaison between hospital and vendors.

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the computerized master data file for assigned departments.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

  • Maintains effective communications with department directors, physicians, sale representatives to provide and/or obtain information relative to the purchase of material, availability, cost and terms.

  • Expedites delivery of material, goods and service.

  • Coordinates the development of bids.

  • Negotiates with vendors for products-establishing firm pricing, usage requirements and delivery schedules.

  • Brings new products to the attention of the user department and the senior buyer, for possible introduction to the Product Evaluation and Standardization Committee.

  • Reviews products when ordering to determine if the products are eligible for inventory stock.

  • Acquire MSDS sheets for all products that contain hazardous substances.

  • Immediately assists in the approval and clearance of invoices in dispute.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Associate degree in business or related procurement field preferred.
  • Good professional communication skills and a high degree of aptitude for details

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One (1) year of purchasing policy knowledge
