Summary

The Biostatistician provides analytic support to system wide research projects; applies data programming and statistical methodology; and leverages supporting technology systems. Independently provides biostatistical support for research projects including study planning, proposal/protocol development, statistical programming, serves on data safety committees, statistical analyses, production of tables and graphs, write-up of analyses and manuscript preparation. Communicates findings clearly to diverse stakeholders, documents work for training and replication purposes and provides consultation and education on statistical topics. Maintains development standards and meets the reporting needs generated by research investigators and staff in relation to electronic health records as well as develops and maintains project specific databases.

LOCATION: Lancaster, PA

HOURS: Full time (40 Hours per Week), The business intelligence department is currently working 100% remote. Flexibility around remote/in-person work and health system policy around this process and future pandemic trajectory will be required. The future may be a hybrid remote/office or 100% remote work environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Mentor and train medical residents and health system staff on biostatistical concepts and research methods.
  • Leads the statistical and research methods aspects as well as designs and develops specifications for statistical analyses outlined in research protocols.
  • Creates design specifications and executes study planning, sample size calculations, proposal/protocol development, statistical programming, serves on data safety committees, statistical analyses/modeling, production of tables and graphs, write-up of analyses and manuscript preparation.
  • Aggregates data from disparate sources to provide analytic databases for research studies and research administrative processes.
  • Develops reports and queries to extract data from electronic health records and other data sources (will require Epic certification).
  • Documents statistical analyses through programming/writing of code and appropriate notations to ensure reproducibility.
  • Develops and manages research specific databases to conform to research study requirements, study team and regulatory standards.
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of staff to exchange information, ideas, and respond to inquiries. Communicates statistical results/findings to diverse non-technical audiences. Interfaces with clients to define report deliverables, issues, questions, needs, trends, and timing.
  • Manages the work to meet project milestones through task management, consistent follow through, relationship management and creative organizational problem solving.
  • Applies research-related policies and procedures for access to and use of patient medical data as well as IRB/HRP policy and ensures compliance of requests with these policies and procedures.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

  • Pursues professional development to stay current in best practices related to biostatistics, research methods and research data management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in biostatistics, statistics, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of two to five (2-5) years of experience with statistical software such as Stata, SPSS, SAS, R, etc. for programming and statistical analyses. Experience in associated coding languages with statistical software as well as producing reproducible analyses and documentation.
  • Minimum of two to five (2-5) years of experience as a collaborative biostatistician.
  • Epic Certifications as required by Information Services to support department needs.  Certification will be offered and provided by LGH and must be obtained within 6 months of role entry and within three (3) exam attempts.
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting with familiarity of clinical, quality, safety, and financial data.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possession of sharp teamwork/partnering skills.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide guidance to medical professionals on biostatistical and research methods.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Author/collaborator on peer review publications, presentations, or posters.
  • Experience with REDCap.
  • Knowledge of data query language(s) such as SQL and data extraction methodologies. Experience with relational database concepts and query tools
