Position/Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Academic Advising Manager the Advisor collaborates in the development, implementation and delivery of academic advisement, financial planning and enrollment counseling in a learner centered environment that contributes to the success of the college’s support services. The Advisor will possess knowledge of the college advising and academic success models. The primary responsibilities of the Advisor is to work collaboratively with a team of admission counselors and faculty, to provide academic advising, identifying learning support needs, educational planning, understanding financial options and responsibilities, and developing professional goals within a learner centered culture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (ability to perform with or without reasonable accommodations)

  • Promotes and contributes to the enhancement of PA College’s high performing learner-centric environment.   

  • Demonstrates and specializes in academic advising, student persistence and retention.

  • Collaborates in providing comprehensive advising services for students, including but not limited to course selection/combinations and sequencing.

  • Assist the Registrar with end-of-semester academic progression process, with periodic evaluation and analysis to determine satisfactory academic advancement.

  • Work with faculty to make recommendations that keep students on track with professional goals and persisting toward graduation.

  • Assumes responsibility for the College academic advising communication systems to ensure accurate and proactive communication.

  • Recommends mandatory and/or intrusive advising and learning support as needed.

  • Serves as an advocate for student concerns and refers students to appropriate departments and outside community resources as needed.

  • Works in partnership with colleagues in the Academic & Student Affairs Division and others in the College Community to promote and enhance student success and retention, evaluate progress and develop individual learning plans.

  • Works together with the Learner Success and Campus Life teams in the development and delivery of programs, support materials and activities to promote learner success.

  • Demonstrates professional development and planning, guided by division goals and assessment.

  • Collaborates in departmental activity documentation and data collection.

  • Participates in departmental activity analysis and planning.

  • Meets the expectations of the Student Affairs, Service Level Agreement.

  • Develops career and professional development strategies for integration throughout an academic and co-curricular philosophy that prepares graduates for current and future careers.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in College initiatives and supports College mission and goals.

  • Maintains professional competency through continuing education and discipline organizations.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

Specific Education, Certifications, and Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in an academic advising, student support, or student development role

  • Interpersonal and communication skills

  • Familiar with the CastleBranch system
